Things you remembered and wish you hadn't.

You're 7 years old

and you climb out of a window

cause there's someone in the house

but you see there isn't,

you're pulled by your hand

barefooted through the street

where you see broken glass 

and you cry. 

You really want dad.

You're 8 years old

you jump over a 2 meter fence

to get inside your dad's house.

You hide in your room,

reading a book 

you hear the cuckoo clock

strike 3 a.m. for the first time.

Dad arrives and hugs you.

You're 9 years old

at grandma's house

you wake up at 3 a.m.

to use the restroom.

You find her on the floor

and realize for the first time

that this is not normal.

Dad picks you up 

and takes you away.

You're 10 years old

after dad died

In the back of a pick-up truck 

of an unknown man

swerving through the desert 

and the smell of orange chapstick.

You pray it's a nightmare.

It isn't.
